Dallas and Denise Pierce,chefs/owners of The Sweezy House Restaurant and Bakery, have both had a passion for the culinary arts industry for many years  , together they have over 40 years experience. They met working at a French Restaurant in Hilton Head Isl.Dallas was the Chef and Denise was the sous Chef. They have been married for 15 years and have 3 sons  Garit ,Carter ,and Colby who at this point are all very interested in working in the restaurant.

          After leaving high school, in Albany Georgia, Dallas joined the navy and was stationed in California for 5 years. He then moved to Hilton Head Is. in the 80’s where his career in food and beverage started. Dallas came up from the bottom in restaurants while bartending he also worked as a cook and eventually was executive chef at many restaurants. Through many years Dallas was very privileged to train under some very talented chefs. From private owned restaurant to corporate owned multi restaurants.
Dallas has worked in many different situations.French, Italian and Seafood (lots of seafood’s) are just a taste of the cuisines Dallas has mastered. He became known for his innovative specials as wells as his table side service. He prides himself in knowing the customers and what they like.
Denise attributes her love of food to her family. As a child growing up in Fallston she loved to watch her mother and grandmother in the kitchen. As she got older she was encouraged to help and started baking desserts. She attributes her desire for try new things and explores new foods to her dad who has always been a wonderful cook and has a true joy for comforting people through food as his mother did. Grandma Lorene’s southern hospitality was defiantly pasted down to Denise.

She did her first wedding cake at 16 and sold cakes to her friends at school as well as bussing tables.  After high school the natural choice was to attend culinary school. Being the late 80’s there was not as many choices that there is now for culinary technology. But someone told her about the rigorous and well regarded Culinary Program at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College. Denise also continued to explore and advance her knowledge in the desserts. Her desire to excel in the food service industry enabled her to run a kitchen before she was in her 20’s.
After culinary school she moved to Hilton Head Is. with some friends, for new challenges and gain experience. Contemporary Italian, French, American, and South Western, are some of the place’s that she worked. She also started a small catering business serving a variety of visitors to the island with many different needs. She has always chosen private owned small restaurant and the catering because of the more personal touch that you can contribute to the food.
Once their first son was born they both decided it was important to move near family. Denise’s father and she had always talked about opening a restaurant. So the move to Cleveland County was also to move forward on the pursuit of opening their own restaurant.
Since moving they both have worked at many local restaurants as well as The Cleveland County Club and Tradewinds (a seafood and island theme restaurant in Lincoln County).

Dallas and Denise both believe that fresh ingredients and making as much as possible from scratch is the key to setting yourself apart from most places today. But more importantly it just tastes so much better. But they also believe that great food can be affordable to everyone and that is their goal at The Sweezy House. They want to offer the comforts of home style southern cooking as well as the exciting innovated taste of fine dining. The best of both worlds all for you to enjoy.
